Group Accomodation

Postby peddy » Wed Oct 19, 2011 6:44 pm

Is there anyone who has set up some sort of group accommodation to make it cheaper for individuals to come down. I usually come with a group but most of those people can't afford the second bris'nova this year. any suggestions for more affordable accomodation would be appreciated.

The cons out weigh the pros with this one. I'd rather room with somebody I know and pay an extra $100 than have my weekend ruined by doing share accommodation with some stranger I don't know that I don't get along with just for the sake of saving some $$$.

This is coming from somebody that used to set up similar things on these forums.

The first year I organized acomm via these forums (Brisbane 09) the place we ended up at sucked, a few people ended up dropping out which meant some other random backpackers were thrown into our room (and used our towels :P), we had a girl that wanted to bring cutting knifes and was making a big deal out of it.

The second year I organized acomm I placed a rule that you must have at least 500(?) posts on these forums. Kind of a test of dedication. And everything worked out well.

So yeah, while rooming with randoms might seem fun and cheap, A LOT of planning needs to be organized before hand.

yeah, this was sort of a last resort for me, usually i come down with a group of between 7-15 people depending on their own financial situation and what else is going on for them at the time, but with 2 bris'novas this year and most of them having gone to auscon only a few weeks ago, it's left me in the lurch so to speak. I've looked into booking a single room and will have to do that if everything else i'm trying to look into fails it's just a bit much when you're looking at a 4 night stay, plus travel, plus food.
